Philip Martin Gallery is proud to present, "Diary: In the Studio," an online exhibition of new 70s photographs by Kwame Brathwaite. Kwame Brathwaite's images radiate the soul and energy of "Black is Beautiful.”

ArtCenter College of Design: In 1956, 18-year-old Kwame Brathwaite picked up a camera and began capturing images from the dimly lit jazz clubs that he frequented in the Bronx. For over six decades, the photographer would devote his career to perceptively documenting life and culture in conjunction with the Civil Rights, Black Arts and Black Power movements in images that have been hailed as elegant, powerful and visionary.

At 2023 Art Basel Miami Beach Gallery Sector, Philip Martin Gallery presents new and never-before-seen paintings and photographs by Kwame Brathwaite, Holly Coulis, Tomory Dodge, Sky Glabush, Muzae Sesay, Lew Thomas and Sophie Treppendahl.

For the 2023 edition of The Armory Show, Philip Martin Gallery is pleased to present new works by Kwame Brathwaite, Holly Coulis, Tomory Dodge, Kristy Luck, Aaron Morse, Sophie Treppendahl and Muzae Sesay. In their respective practices, these seven artists of different generations and backgrounds consider modern life as it is both represented and experienced. They ask questions about what pictures do, how we read them, and the ways in which we can better understand our society and ourselves.

"Pocket Universe" is currently on view with an opening Saturday, February 18 from 5-8pm. The exhibition celebrates Philip Martin Gallery’s new location in Glassell Park and the artists with whom it is honored to work.
