Vintage printNotes for the series “Reproductions of Reproductions”: This series came after the 1976 Photography and Language exhibition at SFMOMA that was the precipitating incident for the formation of NFS Press (which then published the catalog for Photography and Language). In addition to writing, making art and curating, Lew Thomas ran a bookstore. In particular, the work entitled “Notes”, is a text - originally published 1972 -- that reads backwards, beginning with "an idea for photography..." at the bottom of the page. This text was then published as an artwork in 1978 as part of the Reproduction of Reproductions series.
